DNA test for Ancestry

We live in a country with a rich and complex history, but at the same time we are often unaware of our own family history. Every family has its own "legend" of origin, usually starting with our grandparents - it is not always possible to find out more about our ancestors.

The easiest way is to ask relatives, learn some versions, some interesting stories and draw conclusions based on the stories. This result can be supported by searching in archives, but there is a risk that war, destruction of documents, relocations will prevent obtaining information beyond 3-4 generations. However, modern technologies such as DNA testing for nationality can help to complete this picture.

Genetic research can help you learn more about your ancestry: trace your ancestors migration path on a world map, find out your nationality, find relatives you don't know, contact them and tell each other everything you know about your family history. With the help of a DNA test for nationality, it is possible to discover maternal and paternal ancestry, which is especially valuable if family legends, which have survived only in oral retellings, are lost in the depths of generations.

Our uniqueness is embedded in our genes: our ancestors passed on pieces of their DNA to us, determining the colour and cut of our eyes, the wavy hair, the height of our forehead.

DNA nationality test: a window into the distant past

Over tens of thousands of years of modern human existence, millions of changes (random mutations) have accumulated in the genome, which people have passed down from generation to generation. This is how genetic markers appeared, which were more common among certain peoples and less common among others.

These markers reflect ancestry through the various branches of the family, including paternal ancestry, and define the uniqueness of each of us: our appearance, our body characteristics, and information about our ancestors. The use of DNA ancestry testing helps to identify these markers, adding to the knowledge of maternal and paternal ancestry.

3550

Paternal descent markers (available for males only)

980

Maternal lineage markers (available for both males and females).

In humans, each cell has a set of 23 pairs of chromosomes. One chromosome in each pair is inherited from the mother and one from the father, and unique genetic sequences can be traced back to the father. During the process of transmission, chromosomes exchange sections, so our DNA is a mosaic made up of fragments of DNA from our ancestors. Only the Y chromosome, which determines male sex, and mitochondrial DNA, inherited only from the mother, do not exchange fragments with other chromosomes. These structures are passed from generation to generation virtually unchanged, reflecting paternal descent for the Y chromosome and maternal descent for mitochondrial DNA. Mutations that occurred in the Y chromosome thousands of years ago are passed down from ancestors on the paternal line, and changes in mitochondrial DNA are passed down from ancestors on the maternal line, allowing us to look back thousands of years and reconstruct ancestry through ancient family trees.

Find relatives

With the help of DNA test there is a unique opportunity to determine the degree of kinship of two people. The main task is to find the parts of chromosomes from a common ancestor. The more of these regions two people have, the fewer generations they are separated from a common ancestor. We got 50% of our DNA from our father and another 50% from our mother, who in turn got it from our grandparents. Cousins have 12.5% in common with us. By agreeing to participate in a relative search, you will be able to find relatives up to the 10th generation. 99% of our clients find at least one relative.

DNA test for ethnicity

The vast majority of people come from several nations, often living very far apart. By comparing chromosome regions with the DNA of typical members of different ethnicities, your ethnicity can be assessed. A DNA ethnicity test will tell you how much you belong to each of the 548 populations (including Eastern Europe and Central Asia).

Could I be related to Napoleon, Nicholas II and Genghis Khan?

Ancestry DNA test analyse 3550 genetic markers on the Y chromosome (which is passed from father to son and can only be tested in males) and 980 genetic markers on the mitochondrial DNA (which is passed from mother to child) which allows us to trace ancestral migrations along paternal (for males only) and maternal (for males and females) lines with high precision. Y-chromosome and mitochondrial DNA analysis allows us to estimate the time when you had the closest common ancestors with known people on the paternal and maternal lines.

DNA testing for paternal and maternal ancestry will give you an accurate picture of your connection to historical figures.

Share of Neanderthal genes

Many thousands of years ago, the ancestors of modern humans lived in the same territory with an extinct group of ancient humans - the Neanderthals. Today's living humans have inherited up to 5% of Neanderthal genes. A DNA test will tell you how many genetic mutations and changes you have inherited from the Neanderthals.

You can learn more about your ancestry, better understand family legends, find out where your maternal and paternal ancestors lived and where they moved to - all this can be done with haplogroup analysis and DNA nationality test.

After taking the ancestry DNA test, you will be able to search for relatives up to 10th generation in our database (both paternal and maternal line), contact them and build a family tree together.

Welcome to the future

A DNA ancestry test will tell you how your paternal and maternal ancestors migrated, what your national composition is, and what percentage of your genome you inherited from extinct Neanderthals.

Worldwide delivery of the DNA test

We will deliver the kit to you, you will study the enclosed instructions (or our website), collect the saliva and send it back to us. All you have to do next is wait for the results. We offer DNA testing for various aspects of your ancestry.

How to take the test

Receiving and analyzing the data

Specialists in the best laboratories in the world decode the sequence of your DNA fragments and interpret them. Usually, the file obtained during such an analysis weighs about 30 MB. The study takes 4-6 weeks, but the period can be extended up to 60 days. This time is necessary for the DNA test for nationality and ancestry to be accurate.

Access to personal data

The final results and recommendations of the DNA test for ancestry are stored in your Personal Profile. Data from new sites will also be collected there.

Eligens personal cabinet

The section stores personal information that is only accessible after authorization, so no one will see it without your knowledge. As science advances every day, new methods are becoming available to us that allow us to decipher additional sections of DNA. We are expanding the capabilities of DNA nationality tests by adding data on paternal ancestry and other genetic traits.

So stay tuned for more updates! In the meantime, see what we offer today.

A map of your ancestral migration pathways

The most important questions that are answered after a DNA ethnicity test are «where your ancestry comes from» and «how many different bloods are mixed in you». You will also be able to research your ancestry on your father's side, which will give you a deep understanding of the ethnic map of your ancestors.

Ethnicity DNA test results displaying the accurate percentage of ethnic background

Nationality

To what extent your idea of your ethnicity matches the truth, a DNA ethnicity test will accurately show you. We will also determine a DNA test for paternal ancestry, which will give you a complete picture of your ethnic diversity.

Percentage of Neanderthal genome

We will determine what percentage of genes you have from people of a «different species» and whether you can consider yourself special. This aspect of the analysis is part of a broader DNA ancestry test.

Family tracing result showing discovery of 3 distant relatives through genetic testing

Family tracing

DNA nationality test will help you to restore some gaps in your family history and find relatives from different places you may not have realized existed. If any of them are registered on our website, contact them right here! Also, if you have taken a DNA test for ancestry on your father's side, you may be able to find relatives whose genes match yours on your father's side.
